Papaya Smoothie! Fresh organic, vegan and gluten-free papaya smoothie with no added sugar! mmm…Papaya is delicious, naturally sweet and soft! Did you know it is called “fruit of the angels” by Christopher Columbus?
Papaya is a tropical fruit that is grown in tropical areas like Mexico and Central America. It was brought to the United States in the 20th Century.
Papaya offers a rich source of antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. In addition, papaya contains digestive enzyme, papain, which is often used for pain and swelling. The combination of these nutrients, allow Papaya to promote the health of the cardiovascular system, protection against colon cancer, promote digestive health, anti-inflammatory, immune support, protection against macular degeneration, and protection against arthritis.
Papaya can be prepared in many ways. It can be eaten raw, add into a salad and in some culture, they cook it.
Today, I made myself papaya smoothies with no added sugar and only two ingredients required. Papaya is naturally sweetened, therefore, no added sugar is needed.
1/2 Whole fresh organic papaya
2-3 Cups water (soy or almond milk, based on personal preference)
- Cut the papaya the long way
- Scoop out the seed
- Scoop the papaya into the blender cup
- Add about 2-3 cup of water and then blend it!
Papaya does require a distinctive taste and smell. I know I use to not be a fan of papaya when I was younger but I grew out of it. If the papaya taste or smell is too overwhelming, feel free to blend it with other tropical fruits like mango, banana and/or berries. If the smoothie is not sweetened enough for your preference, feel free to add some maple syrup. Be sure the papaya you picked is ripe so it is sweeter. Ripe papaya is soft to touch and yellow with brown spots.
