The first time I tried to make pesto, I didn't have parmesan cheese on hand, so I start searching how to vegan pesto. Now, I know nothing can beats cheese, but with this recipe you can't even tell it is vegan. Ever since I made my first vegan pesto sauce, I have been making it over and over again.

We use this pesto sauce often. We use it as pasta sauce, smear it on baked bread, a sandwich spread, and even a dipping sauce. The possibilities are endless. It is so delicious you would never guess that it's vegan and dairy-free! It is so delicious that my family just can't seem to get enough of it.

If you are using a food processor, you can throw in all the ingredients except the olive oil. And then slowly add the olive oil in until its finely chopped into paste form.

If you are using an immersion blender, you can throw in all the ingredients and blend until it's like a paste form.

Once you are blending into a paste like texture, put it in a jar with a lid.

Recipe Note:

If you don't have any pine nuts on hand, you can substitute with other types of nuts.

If you want something extra creamy, you can put in half of an avocado.

The secret weapon to this recipe is the nutritional yeast. If you never had nutritional yeast, it's a nutrient-dense food seasoning that you'll find in all sorts of vegan recipes for its cheesy flavor. Some people sprinkle nutritional yeast on their popcorn, dips, and even soup.

How to Store Left Over Pesto

To store you left over pesto, simply put it in a air tight jar/container and put it in the refrigerator for up to a week. If you are planning on freezing it, you can put it in a freezer bag and keep it in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Hand held immersion blender

If you don't have a food processor or small enough blender to make the sauce, check out a handheld immersion blender. They are relatively affordable, and you can buy one for under $50. A handheld blender is a great way to make sauce and dips. Here are some of my recommendations from Amazon.
