A delicious and creamy green kiwi smoothie bowl is the perfect way to start your day. It is packed with good for you ingredients and filled with vitamins and minerals so you can feel good about the rest of your day.
We all know breakfast is the important meal of the day. Yet, so many of us skip breakfast because we simply don't have enough time in the morning, or somehow time always escapes us. One of my quick and easy go-to breakfast is a smoothie, and if I have a few extra minutes, I turn it into a bowl. It is easy to put together, it is nutritious, and it can fuel you up quickly.
One of my favorite breakfast smoothie bowls is this kiwi smoothie, and I consider this a delicious green smoothie. Unlike most green smoothies with a bitter and robust earthy note, this one is sweet and refreshing. It is packed with kiwi, spinach, lemon, and banana. It is that simple! No added sugar, and it is vegan friendly and naturally gluten-free.
Health benefits of eating kiwi
Kiwis are packed with many flavors and full of nutrients and make them a great ingredient to your smoothie recipe.
- High in vitamin C, which is essential for boosting the immune system. One kiwi fruit contains roughly 273% of your daily recommended value!
- Plenty of fiber, which is good for digestion and helps with constipation. And on top of that, kiwi contains a proteolytic enzyme called actinides, which can help break down protein.
- Rich in antioxidants, which are essential to eliminating free radicals within your body, ultimately protect you from inflammation and disease.
- It contains a high level of zeaxanthin and lutein, which are essential for eye health.
Health benefits of adding greens
I love adding leafy greens to my kiwi banana smoothie recipe, especially spinach. Not only will the spinach enhance the green color of your kiwi smoothie, but spinach is also packed with nutrients and antioxidants!
- Low calories. Half a cup of raw spinach is only 25 calories.
- High in insoluble fiber, which may benefit your digestive system and help prevent constipation.
- Excellent source of Vitamin A, C, K1, iron, calcium, and folic acid.
Spinach is best when it is enjoyed raw. By applying heat and cooking your spinach will lose some of its nutritional value. So when you add the spinach to your smoothie recipes, you will get the maximum benefit spinach has got to offer.
Health benefits of adding banana
Banana is a great natural sweetener while it can be used as a thicken agent to thicken your smoothie. And not to mention the health benefits of banana:
- Rich in fiber and resistant starch. Which may be good for you for gut health by providing food to the beneficial bacteria.
- Loaded in potassium and magnesium. These two nutrients are essential for heart health.
- Low calories fruit- A single banana is only about 100 calories.
Why You Will Love This Kiwi Fruit Smoothie Recipe
- No added sugar. Naturally sweetened by kiwi and banana. The more ripe your banana is, the sweeter it will be! And if you are not a banana fan, you can substitute it with another fruit or dates.
- Packed with greens. I like adding spinach to go with my kiwi smoothie and make it even greener.
- You only need 5 ingredients to make this kiwi smoothie recipe!
- This smoothie recipe is vegan and gluten-free friendly!

Recipe Notes
- Kiwis. Make sure you use perfectly ripe kiwis, or else you will end up with a tart and sour note. I like to peel my kiwis because I don't like the texture of the skin, but you can leave the skin on if it doesn't bother you.
- If you are not a fan of bananas or don't have a banana on hand, you can swap for other fruits like mango, pineapple, apple, or strawberries.
- Sweetener. If your kiwi is perfectly ripe, it will be sweet. And combined with banana, I find the smoothie to be perfectly sweetened. To make the smoothie even sweeter, you add 2-3 Medjool dates or honey.
- Nut milk. I used almond milk to make my recipe, but you can use other nut milk, coconut milk, or oat milk.
- If fresh fruits are not available, you can use frozen fruit as a substitute for this recipe. Frozen bananas and frozen kiwi may be cheaper to use and are great for summertime.
- Spinach. When adding raw spinach, make sure you wash it because fresh spinach often comes with dirt and soil in between them. If you don't have spinach on hand, you can swap for other leafy greens. You can also add frozen spinach if fresh is not available.
- Lemon substitute. If lemon is not available, you can use lime or orange juice. The citrus will add a zing to your smoothie.
- Want to make smoothies for two or more? You can double the recipe and make enough for two.

How To tell If a Kiwi is Ripe
The perfect ripe kiwi has a sweet and slightly tangy to it. Otherwise, you can end up using sour and tart. The best way to see if a kiwi is ripe or not is to squeeze it gently. If it's hard, then it is not ripe. If it gives a little, then ripe and ready to be used.
If you have a hard kiwi and would like to use it soon, leave the fruit out at room temperature, and it will ripen in a day or two.
How To Store Left Over Smoothie
If you cannot finish your smoothie at once, pour it into an airtight cup, so the ingredients don't get oxidized. If you are not planning on finishing it on the same day, pour it into a popsicle mold or ice cube tray and freeze it. You can enjoy it later as a popsicle or add it to another smoothie.
